Adam Casagrande
Adam Casagrande advises corporate executives and inhouse counsel on a wide variety of matters, including managing solutions, risk avoidance, dispute prevention, recommendations of specific actions and other business decisions. A significant portion of Mr. Casagrande's practice focuses on commercial and corporate litigation matters, including business and contract disputes, government contracting issues, commercial lease and real estate matters, and intellectual property disputes. As a trial attorney, Mr. Casagrande frequently appears in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, Virginia circuit courts and has argued before the Supreme Court of Virginia. In addition to business advice and trial work, Mr. Casagrande's practice includes alternative dispute resolution. He has both arbitrated and mediated disputes on a wide variety of matters. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Casagrande served as a law clerk to the Honorable A. Christian Compton, Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Mr. Casagrande is a member of the firm's State and Local Taxation practice group and active in the Institute for Professionals in Taxation. He has worked with a number of commercial and industrial property owners in connection with challenges to property tax assessments, and has helped property owners develop analytical models to identify potential over assessments. He recognizes that especially in these challenging economic times it is critical for property owners to identify and correct improper cost items in order to remain competitive.
Mr. Casagrande has been named one of the top up-and-coming lawyers in the state by Virginia Super Lawyers Rising Stars magazine and named one of the “Legal Elite” by Virginia Business magazine. In 2008, Mr. Casagrande was recognized by Benchmark: Litigation as a Future Litigation Star for Virginia.
Mr. Casagrande is licensed to practice in Virginia. He is a member of the Virginia Bar Association Appellate Practice Section, where he serves on the Nominating Committee and the Norfolk & Portsmouth Bar Association, where he serves on the Professionalism Committee. Mr. Casagrande is an active member of Young Professionals of Hampton Roads and has been chosen to join the I'Anson-Hoffman American Inn of Court. In addition, Mr. Casagrande volunteers as a member of the YWCA of South Hampton Roads Property Committee and serves on the Virginia Zoological Society board of directors.
Mr. Casagrande received his bachelor of arts degree in history from James Madison University. He received his juris doctor degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary.

- Defended government contractor sued for False Claims Act violation regarding translation services provided to Army. Potential damages exceeded $1 billion and suspension or debarment.
- Defended publicly traded Fortune 500 company in trademark infringement case in both the federal district court and Fourth Circuit.
- Defended national insurer in multi-million dollar business tort and defamation claim by former agent.
- Defended surety company against millions of dollars in claims against bond in large public construction project.
- Represented mechanical contractor in suit against competitor, obtained injunction preventing competitor from hiring employees and using trade secrets of the mechanical contractor and received damages award.
- Defended real estate development company in multiple mechanic's lien enforcement actions related to several multi-million dollar construction projects.
- Defended real estate development company in federal court against architectural copyright infringement claim.
- Defended international toner and printer product manufacturer in multi-million dollar business dispute with its supplier.
- Defended Mid-Atlantic general contractor against defective construction claims by self-storage unit developer.
- Represented medical supply manufacturer in suit against competitor, obtained injunction against competitor from using trade secrets of the manufacturer.
- Managed mechanic's liens and other construction claims and lawsuits on behalf of Fortune 500 company related to build-outs performed in 17 states.
- Represented 50 percent shareholder in closely held real estate development company in business dispute with partner.
- Represented national franchisor in multiple trademark infringement claims throughout the United States.
- Represented national trade group of the recording industry in multiple copyright infringement actions.
- Represented international construction materials company in enforcement of land option agreement and environmental clean-up provisions against industrial land owner.
