Civil Litigation in State and Federal Courts

We have been called upon to represent our clients’ interests in state and federal courts all across the country. Our antitrust attorneys have handled many complex cases, including major treble damages actions, class action proceedings and multi-district litigation matters. Our representations have included not only the defense of federal and state antitrust claims, but also the defense of claims under state unfair trade practice acts and state law business tort claims of unfair competition. In addition, Williams Mullen’s antitrust lawyers have also been called upon to represent our clients as plaintiff’s antitrust counsel in circumstances where our clients have been the victims of the anticompetitive conduct of others.

Some examples of our civil litigation experience include the following matters:

  • The defense of a reinsurance company in a nationwide class action conspiracy case brought by both state Attorneys General and private party plaintiffs, both at the trial level and all appeals, including appeal to the United States Supreme Court
  • The representation of a regional health care provider harmed by the anticompetitive actions of a national standard-setting organization
  • The defense of a hospital system accused of anticompetitive pricing practices
  • The defense of a pharmaceutical company in a nationwide class action price fixing conspiracy proceeding
  • The defense of a national payment card client accused of engaging in anticompetitive exclusive dealing
  • The defense of a publicly traded logistics company accused of monopolization and attempted monopolization in the Mid-Atlantic states
  • The defense of a national health insurer accused of engaging in vertical price fixing and orchestrating a group boycott
