A. Brooks Hock
Brooks Hock's practice involves all areas of commercial real estate, and he has extensive experience in the acquisition and development of property throughout Virginia and other areas of the southeast. In addition, Mr. Hock has regularly represented regional and national landlords and tenants in connection with the negotiation and preparation of leases for all types of commercial property. Mr. Hock frequently lectures and has published articles on real estate, like-kind exchanges, and gasoline retailing topics.
Brooks Hock's practice involves all areas of commercial real estate, and he has extensive experience in the acquisition and development of property throughout Virginia and other areas of the southeast. In addition, Mr. Hock has regularly represented regional and national landlords and tenants in connection with the negotiation and preparation of leases for all types of commercial property. Mr. Hock frequently lectures and has published articles on real estate, like-kind exchanges, and gasoline retailing topics.
Mr. Hock regularly represents clients engaging in exchanges of like-kind property under Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code. He has developed a network of exchange facilitators and brokerage contacts to assist in the successful acquisition of replacement properties.
Mr. Hock also represents a wide variety of gasoline refiners, jobbers, and dealers in all aspects of gasoline retailing. His practice in that area includes not only the acquisition of sites and other real estate work, but also the negotiation and interpretation of dealer sales agreements, all aspects of co-branding gasoline retail and fast food locations, and interpretation of the Petroleum Marketing Practices Act and Virginia’s gasoline retailing legislation.
Mr. Hock graduated from the University of Virginia in 1978 with a bachelor of science degree in commerce and a concentration in finance. He graduated, cum laude, from Washington & Lee University School of Law in 1983 after having worked from 1978 to 1980 at Bank of Virginia, the predecessor to Signet Bank.
Mr. Hock is a member of the Virginia State Bar, and the Richmond, Virginia, and American bar associations. He is a member of the Richmond Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks, the Associated Builders and Contractors and served on the executive committee of the Real Estate Section of the Richmond Bar Association. Mr. Hock has been named to Virginia Business magazine’s list of the “Legal Elite.” He has been recognized as a top attorney for Real Estate Law by The Best Lawyers in America and a “Super Lawyer” for Real Estate by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine. In addition, Martindale Hubbell has rated Mr. Hock an AV attorney, its highest rating available.
