William R. Mauck, Jr.
Billy Mauck chairs the firm’s Construction and Appellate practice groups and has been a partner in the Litigation Section at Williams Mullen since 1993. While an experienced commercial litigator, his practice focuses on representing clients in the construction industry in state and federal courts and in arbitration and mediation. He has handled numerous cases on a variety of construction issues including delay and inefficiency claims, performance and payment bond claims, mechanic’s liens, design-related issues, and defective construction materials. Mr. Mauck regularly counsels clients in the negotiation, formation, drafting and administration of construction contracts and project-related issues. In representing clients, Mr. Mauck seeks early and efficient resolution of disputes and applies legal project management principles to case analysis and strategy, staffing, information management and budgeting in order to increase efficiency of case management and to maximize predictability of litigation expenses.

He is admitted to practice in all courts in Virginia, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Mr. Mauck is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in Construction Law and was named the Best Lawyers’ 2011 and 2012 Richmond Construction Lawyer of the Year. He has also been named a “Super Lawyer” for Construction Litigation by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine and a “Legal Elite” in Real Estate and Construction Law by Virginia Business magazine. Martindale Hubbell has rated Mr. Mauck an AV attorney, its highest rating available.
Mr. Mauck is a member of the American Bar Association and its Forum on the Construction Industry and Litigation section. He is a member of the Virginia Bar Association, where he has served on its Board of Governors. He is also a current member and past-chair of its Civil Litigation Section and Construction and Public Contracts Law Section. Mr. Mauck is also a member of and past chair of the Virginia State Bar’s Construction Law and Public Contracts Section.
He is a member of and active in the Associated General Contractors of Virginia, Richmond District and the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc., Virginia Chapter. Mr. Mauck is also a contributing author to the Virginia CLE Handbook on Construction, with his chapter entitled “Construction Damages,” published in 2008.
Mr. Mauck attended Washington & Lee University, where he received his juris doctor degree in 1985 and his bachelor of arts degree in 1979. He joined Williams Mullen in 1986, after serving as law clerk to the Honorable A. Christian Compton of the Supreme Court of Virginia.
