Supporting the Arts

Williams Mullen, more so than any other organization I know, really stresses the importance of being passionately involved in our communities.”

Billy Poynter knew that he wanted to volunteer in his local arts community when he joined Williams Mullen. Soon after joining the firm, Billy was offered the opportunity to work with the Virginia Opera. Both his mentor Craig Mytelka and the firm recognized Billy’s appreciation for the Opera and worked with him to increase his involvement and support as well as the firm’s. His commitment was also recognized by those at the Opera, which led to Billy quickly being named to the Statewide Board of Directors and most recently Secretary of the Board. As Billy sees it, his involvement is simply about strengthening his community. Not every community has an opera company, much less one with a national reputation like the Virginia Opera. Billy’s goal is to make sure the Virginia Opera stays vibrant, healthy, and accessible to everyone.

Billy focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. His practice also includes complex commercial litigation matters, and he has extensive experience with electronic discovery, including international electronic data collections.
