David V. DuVal
David DuVal’s practice includes all aspects of commercial real estate, with a specific emphasis on retail, mixed-use and industrial real estate projects. Mr. DuVal regularly represents national retailers in the acquisition and leasing of store locations, including ground leases, build to suit, reverse build to suit and sale leaseback transactions. He also represents regional developers in the acquisition, development, leasing, outparcel sales and both construction and permanent financing of “big box” retail power centers and mixed use projects.

Mr. DuVal regularly represents national retailers in the acquisition and leasing of store locations, including ground leases, build to suit, reverse build to suit and sale leaseback transactions. He also represents regional developers in the acquisition, development, leasing, outparcel sales and both construction and permanent financing of “big box” retail power centers and mixed use projects.
Mr. DuVal has significant experience in the acquisition, development and divestiture of industrial real estate, with a focus on solid waste collection and disposal projects, including landfills, transfer stations, hauling facilities and recycling centers. He brings a unique perspective to his practice, having worked with a local real estate development company prior to attending law school.
He is a member of the Virginia State Bar and its Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the Virginia Bar Association where he served on the Council of the Real Estate Section from 1999 to 2005. He has been recognized by Chambers USA as a leading real estate attorney in Virginia.
Mr. DuVal is a past member of the board of directors of the Richmond Chapter of Ronald McDonald House Charities and a past president and member of the board of directors for the Association for the Support of Children with Cancer. In 2002, Mr. DuVal was identified by Inside Business as one of Richmond’s “Top Forty Under 40.”
Mr. DuVal earned his law degree in 1995 from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, where he was a member of the University of Richmond Law Review. He received his bachelor of business administration degree from James Madison University in 1987.
