David A. Reed
David Reed focuses his practice on the acquisition and sale of commercial and industrial properties, commercial leasing, and land development throughout the U.S. and Canada. Mr. Reed regularly represents public companies and individuals in the national acquisition and divestiture of commercial and industrial real estate, with particular emphasis on shopping center “big box” commercial leasing and the development, management and execution of national development plans. He has significant experience in the national acquisition, development and divestiture of real estate for solid waste collection and disposal purposes, including landfills, transfer stations, hauling facilities and recycling centers.

Mr. Reed regularly represents public companies and individuals in the national acquisition and divestiture of commercial and industrial real estate, with particular emphasis on shopping center “big box” commercial leasing and the development, management and execution of national development plans. Prior to joining Williams Mullen, Mr. Reed was a shareholder with Akerman, Senterfitt & Eidson, P.A., in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Previously, he was the senior real estate counsel with Republic Industries, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange company, which included Republic Services, Inc., a solid waste company, AutoNation, Inc., an automotive retail company, and car rental companies, Alamo Rent-A-Car and National Car Rental. While at Republic, Mr. Reed created the company’s real estate and construction legal department, and was responsible for all legal matters relating to real estate, construction and development. Prior to joining Republic, Mr. Reed was associate general counsel for Blockbuster Entertainment Group, a Division of Viacom, Inc., where he was responsible for all legal matters relating to Blockbuster’s real estate, construction and franchise departments, and where he implemented and managed a national retail roll-out program in excess of 500 stores per year. Mr. Reed is a member of the Virginia State Bar as well as the Florida Bar, and its Real Property, Probate and Trust Law sections.
Mr. Reed earned his law degree in 1990 from Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad Law Center, where he was a senior staff member of the Nova Law Review. In 1986, he received a bachelor’s degree in real estate from The Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.
