Doing Business in the Cloud in 2017 -- Key Contract and Security Tips for the Practitioner
Presented by: Randy Sabett of Cooley and Stephen Riddick, General Counsel, Tenable Network Security.
During the 'early' years, migrating systems, applications, or data to the cloud was viewed as an awesome move by many in technical functions, while those in legal and compliance roles often became horrified when they found out the security and privacy landscape that was available from the cloud providers of the time. Fast forward to today, where many cloud offerings tout their security posture and competition amongst providers has increased. This panel session will focus on a variety of considerations when selecting cloud providers, along with considerations for contracting with such providers.
Session 2 (10:15 - 11:45 a.m.)
Mitigating Risk in Vendor Technology Contracts
Presented by: Will Dickinson of Williams Mullen and Jeff Gilleran, former Assistant General Counsel, Verizon.
With an ever-increasing role of software and other technology in a company’s day-to-day operations and long-term strategic considerations, in-house counsel from all industries now encounter IT contracts as part of their practice. Although these contracts often seem routine, there can be significant business risks to consider before advising your client to proceed with its chosen vendor. This presentation will focus on several strategies for mitigating those risks, while being mindful of industry standards and typical risk allocation scenarios to avoid unnecessarily difficult contract negotiations.
