Gib Laite concentrates his practice in the general areas of construction, real estate, securities representatives, commercial collections, business and loan workouts, lender liability and railroads. In practice for over 20 years, Mr. Laite has handled a wide variety of matters including: contracts involving construction, sale of business, sale of goods, sale of real estate, securities representatives and letters of intent; landlord and tenant disputes involving lease defaults, collection of rents, fixtures, and non-compete or other restrictive use clauses; title and boundary disputes including the related issues of roadway rights, easements, water rights, developer turnover and restrictions on use; loan defaults, work-outs, collections and lender liability; business workouts and wind-downs; construction contracts, delays, payment defaults, defects, liens and bonds; condemnations/eminent domain; railroad right of way matters; real estate escrow disputes; real estate broker, real estate appraiser and general contractor licensing board complaints and compliance; and partnership matters. Mr. Laite’s practice includes the drafting and litigation of construction contracts, leases and other business documents, and includes both consultation and dispute resolution.

Mr. Laite is a member of the Maine and North Carolina state bars and the American and North Carolina bar associations. He has been named among the “Legal Elite” by Business North Carolina and among The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Laite frequently presents seminars on construction lien law, real property litigation and railroad issues and regularly authors articles for publication on these and other legal topics. Mr. Laite is a former general counsel to the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. He has also served on the boards of directors and executive committees of numerous civic organizations.
Before joining the firm, Mr. Laite served for two years as a law clerk to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Laite was licensed as a real estate broker, with experience in construction, development, sales, finance and general business matters.
Mr. Laite earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Southern Maine and a juris doctor degree, cum laude, from Wake Forest University School of Law.
