Williams Mullen Welcomes Three New Associates
Williams Mullen is pleased to announce that Veronica Barkley, Amanda Bird and Clinton Oas have joined the firm as associates. Ms. Barkley joins the firm’s Finance & Real Estate Section in Raleigh, while Ms. Bird and Mr. Oas join the firm’s Litigation Section and Tax Section, respectively, in Richmond.
Ms. Barkley focuses on matters relating to commercial real estate, including leases, acquisitions, sales, loans, land development and financings. She also assists in negotiations between tenants and landlords.
She earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where she graduated with honors. She was also a member of the North Carolina Law Review, served on the UNC Law Pro Bono Board and was an Honors Writing Scholar. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from American University.
Before joining Williams Mullen, Ms. Bird spent two years as a law clerk to The Honorable David J. Novak in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. She represents clients in complex commercial litigation matters at the state and federal levels, including regulatory proceedings, investigations and administrative matters.
Ms. Bird earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Richmond School of Law, where she received the Charles T. Norman Award for Outstanding Graduate, an award based on student nominations and selected by the faculty that is presented to the best all-around law student. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Virginia Tech.
Mr. Oas represents clients in matters related to the taxation of businesses, business owners and investors. He also provides domestic and international tax planning for businesses and individuals.
He helps businesses in a wide range of industries with corporate and tax issues, including those related to choice of entity; the formation, acquisition, disposition and liquidation of business entities; corporate reorganizations; like-kind exchanges; foreign tax issues; and federal and state tax disputes.
He is licensed to practice in Massachusetts. Before law school, he co-founded a health care patient relationship management (PRM) platform company, which was sold in 2017. He also previously worked as a paralegal for an international law firm and as a trade specialist working on foreign trades for a large financial institution.
Mr. Oas earned his Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School, and he earned his L.L.M. in Tax from the Georgetown University Law Center. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Northeastern University.
