Matthew E. Cheek
Matt Cheek is a transactional attorney focusing on banking and real estate matters. Mr. Cheek has broad experience in a variety of transactional settings, including representing lenders and borrowers in loans secured by real property, owners and developers in the acquisition and sale of real property, property owners in land use and zoning cases, and others in general transactional and commercial matters. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Cheek served as a law clerk to Justice Elizabeth B. Lacy of the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Cheek served as a law clerk to Justice Elizabeth B. Lacy of the Supreme Court of Virginia.
He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association and the Bar Association of the City of Richmond. As a member of the Virginia Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division, Mr. Cheek has served as chair of the Executive Committee, the co-chairman of the Law School Liaison Committee and the young lawyer liaison to the Community Service Council, as well as the Membership Committee and the Regional Advisory Committee. In 2009, the Virginia Bar Association Young Lawyers Division presented Mr. Cheek with its highest honor, the Sandra P. Thompson Award for outstanding work and long term service. He is listed in Virginia Business magazine’s “Legal Elite” and has been named one of the top up-and-coming lawyers in the state by Virginia Super Lawyers Rising Stars magazine. In 2009, Mr. Cheek was named to Style Weekly's list of the "Top 40 Under 40" for his community involvement.
Mr. Cheek is a member of the board of directors of a number of community service organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America, the United Way Downtown Campaign, the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce and the Richmond Chapter of the English-Speaking Union. He also volunteers as a closing attorney for Habitat for Humanity.
Mr. Cheek received his undergraduate degree, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994. He earned his law degree in 1999 from Washington & Lee University School of Law, where he was a member of the Moot Court Executive Board.
