12.15.2009 G. Andrew Nea, Jr. Receives 2010 John C. Kenny Pro Bono Award RICHMOND, Va. – Williams Mullen announces that G. Andrew Nea, Jr., the firm’s pro bono partner, has received the 2010 John C. Kenny Pro Bono Award from the Bar Association of the City of Richmond. The award recognizes an attorney in the Richmond community who has “demonstrated dedication to the development and implementation of pro bono projects to improve the delivery of legal services to the poor.”

Julious P. Smith, Jr., Chairman and CEO of Williams Mullen, commented on Mr. Nea’s award; “Andy has contributed thousands of hours of service, has served as general counsel to some of Richmond’s largest non-profits like Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity and the Heart of Virginia Council: Boy Scouts of America, and has coordinated the pro bono activities of over 300 attorneys across Virginia, North Carolina, and the District of Columbia. He truly deserves this award and I thank him for all of his service.”

In 2007 Mr. Nea returned to Williams Mullen after his retirement to serve as pro bono partner. He is responsible for coordinating all of the pro bono activities of the firm. Thanks to his leadership, the firm has been able to create initiatives such as the Wills for Seniors program (a program designed to assist individuals who do not have the resources to have an attorney draft a will) and helped to coordinate the Virginia State Bar’s Wills for Heroes program. Williams Mullen also supports LINC (Legal Information Network for Cancer), Homeward and the Legal Aid Justice Center to name a few.

Mr. Nea will receive the award from the Board of Directors of the Bar Association of the City of Richmond at a luncheon on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Richmond.
