08.16.2010 James V. Meath Named “Richmond Best Lawyers Labor & Employment Lawyer of the Year” for 2011 Williams Mullen announces that James V. Meath has been named the “Richmond Best Lawyers Labor & Employment Lawyer of the Year” by The Best Lawyers in America.

Best Lawyers compiles its lists of outstanding attorneys by conducting peer-review surveys in which leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers. The current, 17th edition of The Best Lawyers in America (2011), is based on more than 2.8 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers. Mr. Meath was honored as a “Lawyer of the Year” because he received a particularly high rating by Best Lawyers. In turn, this high rating is the result of Mr. Meath’s level of respect among his voting peers for ability, professionalism and integrity.

In practice for nearly 30 years, Mr. Meath has extensive experience representing businesses throughout the U.S. and internationally in all areas of labor and employment law. A primary concentration of his practice is assisting clients in maintaining their non-union status. Mr. Meath advises employers on petition avoidance and on conduct and strategy during the course of an election campaign. He has acted as chief spokesperson in numerous collective bargaining negotiations. Mr. Meath has served as lead counsel in cases involving state and federal injunctions against labor unions, union officials and union members involved in work stoppages. In addition, Mr. Meath has represented employers in connection with union organizing campaigns and unfair labor practice charges before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). In addition to nearly 30 years of traditional labor law experience, Mr. Meath regularly defends employers in arbitration and litigation involving all types of employment and labor matters.
