Generally, all real and personal property in North Carolina is subject to the property tax unless the General Assembly or the State constitution have exempted the property from taxation or designated it as a special class of property excluded from taxation. Most statutes granting tax exemptions or exclusions are set forth in the Machinery Act, North Carolina’s property tax code.
