Brian Ball concentrates his practice in mergers and acquisitions, securities laws and corporate governance matters. Brian serves as a trusted advisor to senior management, boards of directors and audit and special board committees on corporate governance and defense matters, including shareholder activism and internal investigations. He also regularly represents clients before state and federal administrative agencies and the Virginia General Assembly. Brian serves on the firm’s board of directors and as its general counsel.

Brian has lectured and written on business transactions and the legal ethics of business law. He is a member of the board of VIRGINIAforever, an organization representing businesses and conservation groups seeking funding for land preservation and water quality. In 2017, he was appointed by Governor Terry McAuliffe to serve on the board of Virginia's Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. He was also named to then Governor-elect Ralph Northam's Transition Committee. Brian also serves on the state council for Ducks Unlimited. He is a past president of the Richmond Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth and a former board chairman of The Healing Place and of The Nature Conservancy in Virginia.

Brian has been named to Virginia Business magazine’s list of “Legal Elite” five times (most recently in 2016) and named a “Super Lawyer” for Business/Corporate by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine since 2006. He has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in America© since 2008. In addition, Martindale-Hubbell has rated Brian an AV attorney, its highest rating available.

Brian graduated with high distinction from the University of Virginia where he was an Echols Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia. He is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and California. He served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California from 1981 to 1982.

He is a member of the Richmond, Virginia and American Bar Associations and the Virginia State Bar.
