Patrick A. Cushing
Director of Government Affairs
Patrick Cushing, a lawyer and seasoned state lobbying professional, is a member of the Williams Mullen Government Relations Section serving as a Government Affairs Consultant. In this role, he provides the firm with legislative, lobbying, government relations and public relations services. Patrick Cushing has extensive experience in developing legislation and policy priorities in the fields of alcohol beverage control, information technology, economic development, energy, biotechnology, privacy, computer crimes, and other science and technology related fields.
Patrick Cushing, a lawyer and seasoned state lobbying professional, is a member of the Williams Mullen Government Relations Section serving as a Government Affairs Consultant. In this role, he provides the firm with legislative, lobbying, government relations and public relations services. Patrick Cushing has extensive experience in developing legislation and policy priorities in the fields of alcohol beverage control, information technology, economic development, energy, biotechnology, privacy, computer crimes, and other science and technology related fields.
Upon graduation in 2005, Mr. Cushing joined the Division of Legislative Services/Joint Commission on Technology and Science (“JCOTS”). During his five years, he was involved in planning, organizing and staffing meetings for JCOTS, a permanent legislative commission charged with developing public policy in all science and technology related fields. Additionally, Mr. Cushing developed and drafted legislation for all 140 members of the General Assembly, the Governor, and Cabinet Secretaries and served as the lead staff attorney for the House Science and Technology and the Senate Rehabilitation and Social Services committees. Other studies and commissions served include Commission on Energy and Environment, Fuel Efficient Vehicles and Transportation Funding, STEM Education in Virginia’s Public Schools and several others.
In May 2010, Mr. Cushing joined the Alliance Group as Vice president of Government Relations, providing a wide range of services including government relations, public relations, marketing and business development services.
Mr. Cushing earned his undergraduate degree from James Madison University with double majors in Integrated Science and Technology and Political Science and his juris doctor from Roger Williams University School of Law prior to starting work with the General Assembly.
