A. Peter Brodell

Peter Brodell’s practice involves bankruptcy, class action defense, shareholder disputes and complex commercial litigation. Over the past 20 years he has handled various class action matters including the class action defense of the sole insurer of the Dalkon Shield, the defense of a major law firm in a class brought under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the defense of various consumer class actions filed against major retailers. He has also represented a plaintiff class of over 5,000 landowners in a class action against an electric utility.

In addition, Mr. Brodell serves as outside counsel to a large, private university in Virginia and has represented the educational institution in debt restructuring, injunctive and declaratory relief actions in state and federal courts, construction disputes, litigation involving the purchase of media outlets, and the defense of various regulatory issues involving environmental, as well as accreditation matters.

From 1984 to 1985, Mr. Brodell served as a staff law clerk for the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia.  He clerked for the Honorable Robert R. Merhige and the Honorable D. Dortch Warriner.  He joined Williams Mullen after completing his clerkship.

Mr. Brodell earned his juris doctor degree in 1984 from the College of William and Mary's Marshall-Wythe School of Law.  In law school, he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Barrister and was the winner of the 1984 Marshall-Wythe Invitational Moot Court Tournament.  Martindale Hubbell has rated Mr. Brodell an AV attorney, its highest rating available.  He received his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary in 1981.

Mr. Brodell is a member of the Richmond, Virginia, and American bar associations and the Virginia State Bar.  He serves on the board of directors for the Richmond Metropolitan Authority.
