James Head represents high net-worth individuals and owners of closely-held businesses in the areas of tax, estate planning, trust and estate litigation, gift and estate tax controversy, business planning, and other general business law matters. Mr. Head also represents banks and fiduciaries in state courts throughout Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia with respect to all areas of trust and estate disputes, including breach of fiduciary duty, will and trust interpretation, will contests, lost wills, and trust modifications.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Head was an associate with a Washington, D.C.-based firm. He is a member of the Virginia, Maryland and District of Columbia bars and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Circuit Court for the Fourth Circuit, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, the District of Columbia and the Eastern District of Virginia. Mr. Head holds membership in the American Bar Association’s Section on Taxation and the bar associations of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Mr. Head is honored to be listed in the 2005-2008 editions of Who’s Who in American Law. He has been included in several editions of Who’s Who in America, including 2013, and most recently in Who’s Who in Emerging Leaders for 2007. In addition, Mr. Head has been named one of the top up-and-coming lawyers in the state by Virginia Super Lawyers Rising Stars magazine.

He received a master of laws in taxation degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2000 and graduated with honors in 1995 from the George Washington University National Law Center. While in law school, Mr. Head was the managing editor of The Environmental Lawyer. He is a 1992, magna cum laude graduate of the University of Maryland, where he earned his bachelor of arts degree in economics.
