Kip McAlister represents manufacturing, agricultural and other related companies in environmental, health and safety regulatory matters, including permitting, compliance, reporting obligations, spills and violations of permit requirements. Kip frequently advises clients in matters involving the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Clean Air Act (CAA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA or Superfund) and the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), among others.

These laws create numerous hurdles at the federal, state and local levels, and Kip helps clients navigate these obstacles throughout the regulatory process. He counsels clients facing enforcement actions by a number of governmental agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control (SDHEC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Kip’s experience also includes defense of toxic tort litigation, negotiations relating to environmental permits and environmental due diligence in commercial real estate transactions. For clients in the firearms industry, he advises companies throughout the country on compliance and enforcement related to shooting ranges. In addition, Kip handles matters in State and Federal court involving general construction, lender liability, real estate, commercial collections and health care.  

Prior to joining Williams Mullen, Kip prosecuted cases as assistant solicitor in the Second Judicial Circuit for the Honorable J. Strom Thurmond, Jr. Kip also served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Thomas A. Russo of the South Carolina Circuit Court. He earned his J.D. from the Charleston School of Law in 2009.
