Patrick R. Hanes
Patrick Hanes' practice includes civil and white collar criminal litigation at both the trial and appellate level. His practice has included a broad base of civil and criminal litigation, in disputes involving securities, trade secret, antitrust, conspiracy, and other complex commercial claims. He has developed particular proficiency in patent, trademark and copyright infringement, and has represented parties in intellectual property litigation, at both the trial and appellate level, in courtrooms across the country. In addition, Mr. Hanes has substantial experience conducting investigations both in the United States and overseas. He has represented clients in government and corporate investigations in matters involving securities and banking regulation, antitrust, conspiracy, wire fraud, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He serves as the co-chair of Williams Mullen's White Collar and Investigations Team and of the firm's Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group.

Prior to joining Williams Mullen, Mr. Hanes served as a law clerk to the Honorable Albert V. Bryan, Jr., Senior Judge for the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Virginia.
A member of the Virginia State Bar, Mr. Hanes currently serves on the board of governors of the Antitrust, Franchise and Trade Regulation Section. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He has been named to Virginia Business magazine’s list of “The Legal Elite” and is recognized as a top intellectual property litigation lawyer by The Best Lawyers in America as well as by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine. In addition, Martindale Hubbell has rated Mr. Hanes an AV attorney, its highest rating available. He serves as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Richmond, T.C. Williams School of Law, teaching in the area of appellate advocacy. He is the co-author, with Professor Kent Sinclair, of an article published in the William and Mary Law Review.
Mr. Hanes received his law degree in 1994 from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was a member of the University of Virginia Law Review. He received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Virginia in 1988, where he was an Echols Scholar.
