Robert Travers is a partner in the Litigation Section at Williams Mullen. He maintains a diverse practice in state and federal courts and also represents clients in administrative hearings, arbitration proceedings and mediations. He focuses his practice primarily in the areas of construction, land use and real estate litigation, and business and commercial litigation. He also represents private individuals, insurance companies and a transit authority in matters related to all manner of casualty claims ranging from property damage to catastrophic injury.

He also represents private individuals, insurance companies and a transit authority in matters related to all manner of casualty claims ranging from property damage to catastrophic injury.
Mr. Travers has extensive experience representing contractors, managers, owners and developers in construction contract disputes, delay and inefficiency claims, mechanic's lien litigation, performance and payment bond claims, and statutory warranty claims. He has extensive experience representing general contractors and design professionals in hearings before the Virginia Department of Occupational Regulation. In addition, Mr. Travers routinely counsels clients in the negotiation, formation, drafting and administration of construction contracts, including construction management, design-build, stipulated sum and cost plus agreements.
Mr. Travers has litigated a variety of land use and real estate litigation matters. His experience includes commercial landlord and tenant disputes involving lease defaults, collection of rents, fixtures, unlawful detainer actions, eminent domain litigation, riparian rights, title and boundary disputes, zoning issues and board of zoning appeals. In addition to his representation of developers, businesses, municipalities and individual property owners, Mr. Travers has defended multiple private lending institutions from lawsuits alleging violations of the Truth in Lending Act, the Consumer Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and the Home Ownership and Equity Protection Act.
Mr. Travers is a member of the class of 2012 of Lead Hampton Roads and the Tidewater Chapter of The Associated General Contractors as well as the American Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. He is listed in Virginia Super Lawyers Rising Stars magazine for General Litigation.
Mr. Travers is admitted to practice before the state courts of Virginia and North Carolina, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the U.S. District Court, Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia. He earned his juris doctor degree from Wake Forest University in 2003 and his bachelor of science degree from Appalachian State University in 1999. While at Wake Forest, Mr. Travers was the recipient of the Bayard Thurman, Sr. Scholarship, on the moot court board, and a member of the Jessup International Law Competition Team, where he was recognized as Top Oralist for 2002 at the Washington, D.C. Regional Competition.
