Steve Burke’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, contract drafting and negotiation, corporate and securities transactions, private equity financing and general business consultation. Mr. Burke’s recent transactions include representing the owners of a dental management company and related dental practice in the sale of these businesses to a strategic buyer; a public company in its acquisition of the majority control of company providing services to the financial services industry, including the negotiation of a complex limited liability company agreement with put and call provisions; several operators of skilled nursing facilities in unrelated transactions for the acquisition of a total 31 facilities; and the owners of a majority interest of a home health care business in the sale to a public company. In 2005, Mr. Burke came to Williams Mullen from Abacus Communications LC, where he served as president, chief executive officer and executive vice-president. Before joining Abacus Communications, Mr. Burke was a partner with Clark & Stant, P.C., which merged with Williams Mullen in 1999. While with Clark & Stant, Mr. Burke represented public and private companies in a wide variety of mergers and acquisitions and debt and equity financial transactions. Mr. Burke served as the chairman of the Clark & Stant’s commercial department and its technology committee and as a member of the compensation committee. Mr. Burke is a member of the Virginia State Bar. Mr. Burke served as president and a member of the board of directors of and is counsel to The Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation, a section 501(c)(3) charity that has raised over $1 million primarily for educational causes. From 1996 to 2000, Mr. Burke was a member of the Virginia Beach Development Authority and served as chair and vice-chair. He received his undergraduate degree from Lafayette College, his juris doctor degree, with distinction, from Seattle University and his masters of law in taxation from Georgetown University.
