Thomas E. Snyder

Tom Snyder is a partner in the Business Section at Williams Mullen. A commercial attorney with more than 30 years of experience, he practices extensively in the areas of securities, corporations, mergers and acquisitions, finance, commercial real estate law, and franchising and licensing.

Mr. Snyder represents companies and promoters in a variety of security offering matters. He prepares registration statements, prospectus and private placement memoranda in connection with the issuance of stock, limited partnership and limited liability company interests and other securities. In addition, Mr. Snyder handles the preparation of Franchise Disclosure Documents and related agreements in compliance with the FTC Rule and handles franchise registration with state agencies on behalf of franchisors. Mr. Snyder has also represented franchisees in the negotiation of individual franchise agreements, as well as area development agreements.

Mr. Snyder has extensive experience serving as general counsel to a variety of businesses, handling a broad variety of general administrative and commercial issues and transactions. He has experience involving complex joint venture, venture capital, and financing issues. He represents commercial and corporate clients in a wide variety of matters including organization of new ventures, complicated restructuring of existing businesses, sales and acquisitions of businesses, spin-offs and disputes between business owners.

He also has handled numerous sophisticated commercial real estate transactions, including transactions for national companies such as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and Homart Development Company. He represents developers, builders, investors, managers and syndicators in all aspects of commercial real estate, including development of industrial parks, assisted living facilities, sales, purchases, refinancings, leasing, easements, subdivisions and like-kind exchanges.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Snyder was a partner with Clark & Stant, which merged with Williams Mullen in 1999. He is a member of the Virginia Beach and Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Associations and the Business, Banking and Real Property Sections of the American Bar Association.

Mr. Snyder is a former member of the board of directors of the Virginia Association for Commercial Real Estate, a statewide commercial real estate organization, and is a former president of the Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate, where he currently serves as a member of its board of directors and on its President’s Council. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Virginia Beach Vision and formerly served on the board of directors of Ohef Sholom Temple.

Mr. Snyder earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and received his juris doctor degree from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, where he was a member of the University of Richmond Law Review.
