Bill Brierre is a Washington veteran who has been in the nation’s capital for 32 years. He started his career in the maritime industry in 1972, working first in sales in Dallas until he was transferred to Washington in 1978, where he has worked in several capacities.
Mr. Brierre left his former employer as senior vice president of that company’s Washington division in 1995 to start his own government relations practice. For 10 years, he successfully represented clients on various maritime-related legislative issues, including the Shipping Act of 1984, the authorization of and appropriations for the Maritime Subsidy Program, enactment of the Ocean Shipping Reform Act, ballast water regulation, enactment of the Maritime Tonnage Tax, and appropriations for a defense-related university research project. He also acted as liaison to various government agencies on behalf of clients, principally the Maritime Administration, the Federal Maritime Commission, the Defense Department, the State Department and the Treasury Department.

Mr. Brierre gave up his private practice to join CMA CGM (America) LLC, as vice president - government relations, in September 2005.
Mr. Brierre has a bachelor’s degree from Tulane University (1968) and a master of business administration degree from the University of North Carolina (1972). He served in the U. S. Naval Reserve on active duty (1968 to 1970) as First Division Officer aboard the USS FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (CVA-42). He is a qualified Officer of the Deck Underway.
Mr. Brierre has been active in many professional associations, including the board of directors of the Maritime Institute for Research and Industrial Development (secretary), the National Cargo Bureau, the Navy League of the United States (life member), the National Defense Transportation Association (life member), and the Propeller Club of the United States (executive committee). He is active in his community as a member of the Campagna Center (board member) and Christ Church, both in Alexandria, Va, the Alexandria Library Company (board member), the Potomac Society (committee chairman), New Neighbors Education Center (president) and was a member of the board of trustees of Goodwin House, Inc., for six years. He is a member of a number of environmental groups, including the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, B.A.S.S., the Nature Conservancy, and Trout Unlimited, and is co-founder, charter member and treasurer of the Assawoman Fishing Unlimited Club.
