On November 15, 2017, Lauren Waller delivered a presentation on "Data Retention: Risks & Mitigation" at the Virginia Bankers Association's Enterprise Risk Management Workshop. With the vast proliferation of data and information in the last decade, companies and employees tend to retain this information longer than is required by statute or regulation. These retention habits cannot only increase the costs associated with maintaining and securing data, but can also increase litigation and data breach mediation costs. This presentation outlined the pitfalls for companies in retaining too much data and in not knowing the places the data may reside. In addition, the presentation focused on mitigation of risks before litigation ensues. For more information on the workshop, click below.
