About Super Lawyers and Rising Stars
"Super Lawyers" names North Carolina’s top lawyers as selected by their peers and is based on a nomination process which recognizes professional achievement. The 2009 North Carolina "Super Lawyers" list was constructed based upon votes by more than 17,000 active lawyers across the state who have been in practice for five years or more. The top 5 percent of lawyers, in more than 70 practice areas, were selected as this year’s "Super Lawyers." The list of North Carolina "Super Lawyers" is published annually in the February issues of Charlotte magazine and Law & Politics Magazine. "Rising Stars" undergo the same selection process as Super Lawyers but a mere 2.5 percent are selected to be "Rising Stars."
