11.20.2009 Equal Employment Opportunity is the Law-Employers Required to Post Revised Poster Effective November 21, 2009
Title II of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) becomes effective on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009. GINA expands Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to protect individuals from discrimination based on “genetic information.” In general, GINA prohibits employers from discriminating in the terms or conditions of employment based on genetic information; prohibits employers from retaliating against an employee who opposes genetic discrimination; and prohibits employers from collecting genetic information about an employee or an employee’s family member.
