05.26.2011 Howard E. Gordon Receives Virginia State Bar’s 2011 Traver Scholar Award NORFOLK, VA -- Williams Mullen is pleased to announce that Howard E. Gordon, a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Section, was honored as the recipient of the 2011 Traver Scholar Award.  The Traver Award was created by Virginia Continuing Legal Education and the Real Property Section of the Virginia State Bar to honor men and women who embody the highest ideals and expertise in the practice of real estate law. It is named for the “father” of Virginia real estate lawyers, Courtland L. Traver, whose outstanding legal ability and willingness to share his knowledge and experience was an inspiration to others.

Mr. Gordon’s practice is focused on commercial and multi-family real estate, commercial leases, ground leases, land use planning and permits and traditional urban developments.  His experience includes representing owners and developers in the acquisition of land, development, leasing and financing of numerous shopping centers and multi-family housing projects, as well as hotels and traditional neighborhoods.

Mr. Gordon is a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation, the American Bar Foundation and the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He is a member of the Virginia Bar Association, Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association and is a past chairman of the Virginia State Bar, Real Property Section Board of Governors. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Virginia Business magazine’s “Legal Elite” among the real estate practitioners.  Additionally, Mr. Gordon has been named a “Super Lawyer” for Real Estate by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine.

He is very active in community and civic organizations, including ForKids, Norfolk Sports Club, and its scholarship foundation, the Virginia Arts Festival and the TOWN Foundation.
Mr. Gordon received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1972. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Virginia in 1969.
