05.17.2010 New Shore Power Rules to go into Effect in California

New California regulations will affect how vessels docked there maintain power aboard ship. Ocean-going vessels are a major contributor to air pollution, both nationally and in California. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) estimates that out of all mobile sources of air pollution, large marine diesel engines currently contribute 17 percent of Particulate Matter (PM) and 25 percent of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) emitted in the U.S.
