RideFinders Announces Williams Mullen as First Charter 2015 Gold Level Private Sector Member

Press release from RideFinders and Williams Mullen

Richmond 2015 and RideFinders, the region’s rideshare agency, are proud to recognize the first 25 Charter 2015 members, including the Williams Mullen law firm, which has been the first private company to reach the Gold membership level.

Last year, Richmond 2015 and RideFinders partnered together to launch Charter 2015, a free program that recognizes employers who encourage their employees to consider biking as a commute option, as well as make their business site more bicycle friendly to their employees and visitors.

An employer takes a 10 point assessment which determines the company’s current status as a bicycle friendly business, and classifies its specific certification level of Gold, Silver or Bronze. To reach the Gold membership level, an employer must score 9 out of 10 on the assessment. The assessment uses several different measures, including evaluating the bike related facilities offered at their site, biking education programs provided, and how the company encourages employees to bike. Williams Mullen scored 10 out of 10.

“Williams Mullen’s commitment to cycling goes back several years, since we first began organizing cycling teams for the annual Bike MS event,” said Matt Cheek, a Partner at Williams Mullen and member of the Richmond 2015 Board of Directors. “From participation in bike races to organized rides with clients to informal rides with friends and relaxed weekend rides with our kids, we encourage our attorneys and staff members to get on their bikes and enjoy our Richmond region. As for the Charter 2015 assessment, we appreciate having a measurement that acknowledges bike-friendly workplaces. The Charter 2015 measurements were easily attainable for Williams Mullen, as they should be for any company that is truly committed to a bike-friendly work environment.”

“RideFinders is proud to recognize Williams Mullen as the first private sector Gold level Charter 2015 member,” said Von Tisdale, executive director for RideFinders. “We want
more employers to enroll in this free initiative, and know that it’s easy to become a member. Williams Mullen is helping to be a pacesetter. They definitely see the value in being good stewards of the environment and being good community partners. It’s a win-win!”

RideFinders has a goal of signing up 500 employers to Charter 2015. Even if a company doesn’t initially qualify as a Charter 2015 member with a little assistance from the RideFinders team which includes providing educational and organizational materials, advice, resources and encouragement, a company can be a member on the Bronze level- scoring 5 out of 10 on the assessment.
