Baril, a partner in the firm’s Richmond office, has been named to Virginia Governor Robert F. McDonnell’s Economic Development and Jobs Creation Commission. The Commission is designed to spur economic development and create jobs in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to make a positive impact on the future of economic development in Virginia,” said Mr. Baril. “I am humbled that the Governor has chosen me to sit on his commission and I look forward to starting work as quickly as possible.”

The Commission is comprised of 64 members and is chaired by Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling and co-chaired by Governor McDonnell’s Senior Economic Advisor Bob Sledd. The Commission’s formation was announced moments after the Governor took office as a way of combating the high unemployment rate and increasing level of bankruptcies. Governor McDonnell described the creation of the commission as a way to add “more opportunities for good paying work for all Virginians."

Thomas R. Frantz, the CEO of the firm, commented on Mr. Baril’s appointment: “Steve is an excellent choice for the Governor’s commission. His work with the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce and experience will make him an ideal member of the Commission.”

Mr. Baril is a recognized leader in Virginia politics and public service. He was the General Counsel to the Greater Richmond Partnership, and serves on the Board of the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce and the Board and Executive Committee of Venture Richmond.
