02.04.2009 Update: Deadline For E-Verify Employment Eligibility Verification Delayed
We previously issued a Labor & Employment Alert addressing the new requirements for government contractors to implement the Employee Eligibility Verification system by Feb. 20, 2009. However, following an Obama administrative request for all executive departments and agencies to consider extending the effective date of published regulations that are not yet in effect, federal authorities have agreed for the second time to postpone the compliance date for the new E-Verify requirements. Under these requirements certain government contractors are required, among other things, to use the  E- Verify internet based program to verify the eligibility of their employees to work in the U.S. The compliance deadline is now May 21, 2009.
