Williams Mullen Earns 100 Percent on Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 16th Annual Scorecard on LGBTQ Workplace Equality

Williams Mullen is pleased to announce that the firm received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

Williams Mullen joins 609 businesses across the country who earned top marks this year. Williams Mullen is the only law firm headquartered in Virginia to receive a perfect score and one of five businesses based in Richmond, joining Altria, Genworth Financial, CarMax and the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. A total of 49 businesses with headquarters within the firm's footprint (VA, NC, SC, DC) received a perfect score.

“We are extremely proud to receive a perfect score this year,” President and CEO Woody Fowler said. “We know a diverse and inclusive workplace allows us to better serve our clients, and we are committed to supporting an environment that promotes success for everyone, including our LGBTQ employees.”

The firm received an 85 on the 2016 CEI and a 95 on the 2017 CEI before this year’s perfect score, which had become an internal goal of the firm.

“We’re very happy to receive a 100 this year,” said Allison Domson, a partner in the firm’s Finance & Real Estate sections and chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee. “We look forward to continuing to help push our communities forward, including when it comes to diversity and inclusiveness, and we encourage other businesses to join us in that regard.”

The 2018 CEI rated 947 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices, including non-discrimination workplace protections, public engagement with the LGBTQ community, transgender-inclusive health care benefits and competency programs.
