The region’s growing Hispanic and Latino communities and the challenges and opportunities they face will be discussed.
Santacoloma is the Chesterfield County multicultural liaison, as well as an award-winning local reporter and television host. He hosts several Spanish-language television and radio programs in Greater Richmond, including Chesterfield al Día on Comcast Channel 17. He also writes for Spanish-language print media, including Ecos de mi Tierra, Nuevas Raices, El Centro de Richmond, and Nuevos Hoizontes. He was born in Manizales, Colombia, where he worked as a reporter and radio announcer. He and his family relocated to Chesterfield County in 2000. The United States granted him political asylum because of threats against his life from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, a Colombian terrorist organization. He has worked in the county’s Public Affairs Department since 2001.
This program is free and is open to the public, but will be of special interest to business and community leaders, human resource personnel and those pursing diversity within their organizations. Seating is limited. To preregister, contact Dorene Scarangella McKelvy, chair of RADR, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
