Marie Yascko-Rosado assists clients with a variety of tax, tax-exempt, employee benefits and executive compensation matters. Marie provides advice on obtaining and maintaining federal tax-exempt status and compliance issues related to unrelated business income, potential prohibited transactions, for-profit joint ventures, lobbying and more. She helps clients set up corporate-sponsored private foundations, health care related organizations and foundations, scientific research organizations and family foundations, among others.
Marie Yascko-Rosado assists clients with a variety of tax, tax-exempt, employee benefits and executive compensation matters. Marie provides advice on obtaining and maintaining federal tax-exempt status and compliance issues related to unrelated business income, potential prohibited transactions, for-profit joint ventures, lobbying and more. She helps clients set up corporate-sponsored private foundations, health care related organizations and foundations, scientific research organizations and family foundations, among others.
She also advises clients on the design and implementation of all types of employee benefit programs, including qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs), defined benefit pension plans, IRAs and payroll tax matters. She counsels clients on a variety of welfare benefit arrangements, including health, disability, cafeteria plans, flexible spending arrangements, retiree welfare benefit plans and severance plans.
In addition, Marie advises clients on the federal, state and international taxation of business entities, and she provides domestic and international tax planning for businesses and individuals. She helps businesses in a wide range of industries with corporate and tax issues, including choice of entity issues; corporate formation and governance; acquisition, disposition and liquidation of business entities; corporate reorganizations; like-kind exchanges; foreign tax issues; and federal and state tax disputes.
Marie has experience working with health systems, hospitals and physician practices. Prior to attending law school, Marie worked as a corporate paralegal and tax specialist for a Virginia-based health care facility, where she assisted on transactional matters such as corporate formation and governance; health care provider licensure, certification and enrollment services; and government investigations and claim denials. She has also helped tax-exempt hospitals and facilities with IRC 501(r) compliance by implementing a comprehensive Community Benefit program to include Financial Assistance Policies and Community Health Needs Assessment and Review.
Marie serves on the board of directors of Commonwealth Catholic Charities and has worked with legal aid to provide pro bono services in the area of family law. Marie is fluent in Spanish, which allows her to assist Spanish-speaking clients with their matters.
Marie earned her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the University of Richmond, where she served as the notes and comments editor of the Richmond Journal of Global Law & Business. She also earned her Master of Taxation degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in International Business and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from James Madison University.
