Philip H. Goodpasture
Philip Goodpasture's corporate and business practice focuses on internet commerce, the music industry and private equity investments. He provides advice to clients on legal and business matters, such as deal structure, transaction strategy and operational planning. He often coordinates the interaction of his clients with other legal specialists within the firm. His clients operate across the U.S. and internationally.
Philip has extensive experience with mergers and acquisitions, venture capital transactions, and executive employment arrangements. Issues of tax (federal, state, local and international), intellectual property, insurance and risk management, debt structures, preferred equity structures, restrictive covenants, visas and privacy are themes that flow through most of his practice. He regularly counsels on matters related to the protection of trademarks, copyrights, ideas, rights in a person's publicity and related intellectual property matters.
Many clients have been active in philanthropy and require advice regarding charitable giving structures and related issues. Similarly, he assists clients in receiving proper expertise on protecting and preserving current and future accumulated wealth.
Active in the community, Philip is the treasurer of the board of directors of The Community Foundation for Greater Richmond. He also serves as chair of the board of directors of the Virginia Foundation for Public Media. He is a former board member of the Richmond Forum, the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education, Venture Richmond, Planned Parenthood of Virginia and the World Pediatric Project. He is a graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond. He served as a senior warden on the Vestry of his church.
In addition to serving as a speaker on a variety of legal education programs, Philip has served as a guest lecturer at the University of Richmond School of Law.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics, with high distinction, from the University of Virginia in 1982 and his Juris Doctor degree, also from the University of Virginia, in 1985.
