Williams Mullen Congratulates Kelly Johnson on Appointment to Governor-elect Spanberger’s Administration

Williams Mullen congratulates Kelly E. Johnson on her appointment as deputy policy director in Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger’s administration.

Johnson most recently served as a director with Williams Mullen’s Government Relations Group. She added significant value to the firm and its clients through her legislative insight and effective advocacy on behalf of businesses and associations before Virginia’s legislative and executive branches.

“Kelly’s leadership, strong understanding of the legislative process, and commitment to advancing thoughtful policy made her an important part of our team,” said Hon. David B. Albo, chair of Williams Mullen’s Government Relations Group. “While we will miss her contributions, we are proud to see her take on this role in the governor-elect’s administration. Her experience and perspective will serve the Commonwealth well.”

Johnson has served on Gov.-elect Spanberger’s “United for Virginia’s Future” transition committee and as the transition legislative and policy director for Attorney General-elect Jay Jones and his transition team. Before joining Williams Mullen, Johnson served as Chief of Staff to the Honorable Schuyler T. VanValkenburg in both the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates, where she supported the advancement of legislation across a range of policy areas, including housing, education, energy, elections, and social services.

Johnson is a graduate of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership’s Emerging Leaders Program at the University of Virginia and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
