Employee benefits attorney Marc Purintun has taken over as Chair of Williams Mullen’s Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice. Mr. Purintun joined the firm in April 2015 and has more than 15 years of experience representing clients in all areas of employee benefits and executive compensation. He replaces Kate Marriott, who retired at the end of July.

Williams Mullen’s Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice features seven attorneys who work closely with clients on issues involving all areas of employee benefits law, such as ESOPs, 401(k) and pension plans, health and welfare plans and stock-based compensation, as well as severance and executive and nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements.

“Our Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice includes several seasoned attorneys who focus on different areas of compensation and benefits,” Mr. Purintun said. “This mix of experience allows us to help clients address their benefit plan or executive compensation needs in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.”

Mr. Purintun has represented his clients before the IRS, the U.S. Department of Labor and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation to utilize voluntary correction programs, resolve regulatory audits and obtain administrative rulings, determinations and exemptions. He has advised many companies on setting up domestic partner benefits, and he has commented to the media on the impact of various same-sex marriage rulings on employee benefit plans.

He is a leader of the IRAs and Plan Distributions Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law, as well as a member of the Employee Benefits Committee of the ABA’s Tax Section, the Tax Section of the Virginia Bar Association and the National LGBT Bar Association. He serves as treasurer and a director of the Virginia Equality Bar Association. In August 2015, he was named one of the “Best Lawyers in America” for Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law by Best Lawyers® for the third consecutive year.
