Williams Mullen Sponsors Name and Gender Marker Change Clinics

Williams Mullen will help sponsor the Virginia Equality Bar Association’s (VEBA) name and gender marker change clinics for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals in 2020.

The clinics, held throughout Virginia, assist transgender clients with name change applications, petitions for gender marker changes, birth certificate corrections and other legal record corrections.

“VEBA’s name and gender marker change clinics help transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, connecting them with pro bono attorneys and law students,” said Bary Hausrath, a founding member of VEBA and Clinical Programs Supervisor. “Our clinics have reached hundreds of individuals across the Commonwealth over the past 6 years, and the board and clinics committee are excited to see the many ways that Williams Mullen’s partnership will expand that reach over the course of 2020.“

“Williams Mullen is pleased to support VEBA’s efforts in making it safer and easier for transgender individuals to change their IDs and records to reflect who they are,” said John Mitchell, partner and chair of Williams Mullen’s LGBTQ Initaitive. “We are proud to partner with VEBA on an effort that demonstrates our commitment to promoting diversity and inclusiveness in our community.”

The next clinic will be held in Arlington, Va. on Feb. 22.
