Anna K. Derewenda
Anna Derewenda advises corporate and pass-through entities on navigating the U.S. and international tax landscape. She counsels clients on the tax aspects of corporate formations, investments, and restructurings, as well as mergers and acquisitions, financings, and private and public offerings. Her experience spans the full business lifecycle—from start-up and operational planning to exit events. She has also represented clients obtaining private letter rulings from the IRS.
As the firm’s primary resource for international tax matters, Anna helps U.S. companies structure and optimize their foreign operations. She also advises inbound clients on structuring and reporting for foreign investment in the United States, covering U.S. real property interests, withholding on U.S.-source income, permanent establishment concerns, treaty matters, and the tax consequences of cross-border taxable and tax-free transactions.
Anna serves as one of the firm’s relationship partners and advisory board member for TAG Alliance, a global network of independent professional services firms. Her long-standing involvement in the organization has allowed her to build a strong international network, enabling her to connect firm clients with trusted professionals around the world. She also co-chairs TAG Alliance’s Tax Group.
An active writer and speaker, Anna has published analyses on pandemic‑related tax legislation, IRS relief measures, and emerging tax developments. She previously served as an editor for Thomson Reuters’ Checkpoint Catalyst international tax research platform.
Before joining Williams Mullen, Anna was part of KPMG’s international tax services group. She earned her LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law and her J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law, graduating cum laude. She holds a B.A. in biology from the University of Virginia.
