Robert B. Drozd
Brian Drozd helps technology-driven companies turn complex engineering innovations into strategic intellectual property (IP) assets.
Brian is an experienced IP attorney and electrical engineer who helps companies protect, manage, and maximize the value of their innovations. He advises clients on the full lifecycle of IP—from patent strategy and portfolio development to risk mitigation and enforcement—across a wide range of technology-driven industries.
Brian focuses his practice on the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications, including PCT applications, provisional patents, and utility and design patents. He works closely with clients to align IP strategy with business objectives, helping them build defensible patent portfolios that support product development, investment, and market expansion.
A trusted advisor to both established companies and emerging businesses, Brian regularly conducts freedom-to-operate analyses, patentability assessments, and invalidity and non-infringement evaluations, enabling clients to make informed decisions and reduce IP risk. He also supports clients in post-grant proceedings, licensing and technology transactions, trademark registration, and IP-related disputes and enforcement.
Brian has represented Fortune 500 companies and growth-stage businesses in industries including telecommunications, automotive, aerospace, software, computer technologies, mobile and wireless communications, RFID, medical devices, appliances, biotechnology, sporting goods, financial services, and advanced manufacturing. He is particularly adept at translating complex electrical, mechanical, and software-based technologies into clear, enforceable IP protections.
Before entering law practice, Brian worked as an electrical engineer, contributing to electromagnetics and antenna design research at Duke University and to the design and development of large-scale industrial microwave systems in the Research Triangle Park. This hands-on engineering background allows him to communicate effectively with inventors, R&D teams, and business leaders.
Brian earned his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law and his Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering, magna cum laude, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
