Joe Blackburn assists clients with a variety of civil litigation issues, with a focus on commercial and shareholder disputes and professional liability defense, as well as construction disputes. Joe has handled litigation matters from inception through trial and appeal in state and federal courts throughout Virginia.

Joe's commercial practice includes contract disputes, corporate and partnership disputes, securities disputes, and other varied problems arising in the commercial and construction areas. Joe has represented business owners in shareholder disputes and has defended and prosecuted cases involving dissolution, dissociation, breach of fiduciary duty, and other claims arising out of disputes amongst business partners. Joe also defends fellow lawyers, and other professionals, in malpractice claims.

He has been named a "Rising Star" by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine (2015-2021). He received his J.D., summa cum laude, in May 2011 from the University of Richmond School of Law. While in law school, Joe was the recipient of the John Marshall Scholarship; was inducted into the McNeill Law Society; and was admitted to the Order of the Coif. He was a member of the University of Richmond Law Review and was a University of Richmond Board of Trustees Student Representative.

Joe received his B.A. in economics from the University of Virginia in 2003.

Joe worked previously at Williams Mullen as a summer associate in both 2009 and 2010. Prior to going to law school, he worked as an analyst with a division of Harris Williams & Co. from May 2004 to July 2007. In August 2007, he joined two former colleagues at their new firm, Boxwood Partners, LLC, where he worked for a year as an associate.
