Richard Clagett

Richard Clagett advises public and private companies, with a particular focus on the senior housing industry. He regularly assists investors, owners and operators with skilled nursing, assisted living, and independent living transactions.

Richard advises clients on healthcare regulatory matters such as state licensure compliance, Medicare and Medicaid enrollment and other operational issues related to the ownership and management of long-term care facilities.

Before joining Williams Mullen, Richard was an associate with a law firm in Southwest Virginia where he handled residential real estate transactions, business formations, and other transactional matters.

He was named to the Virginia & West Virginia Super Lawyers Magazine's "Rising Stars" list for the years 2023-2026. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law, where he was a Staff Writer and Articles Editor for the Journal of Energy, Climate, and the Environment. While in law school, he was an extern in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
