S. Tarpley Ashworth, Jr.

Tarpley Ashworth counsels public, non-profit, and private clients in a variety of health care transactions, with a particular focus on complex real estate and M&A matters. He leverages his background in health care regulatory compliance to keep his clients fully advised with a complete picture of their transactions.

Tarpley has advised national and regional health systems, skilled nursing and assisted living operators, medical practices, and behavioral and rehabilitation centers in acquisitions, joint ventures, equity restructuring, debt financing, licensing and reimbursement, and operational leasing. He has significant experience with medical campus and multi-family development, condominium regimes, ground leasing, and asset-backed receivables and mezzanine financing.

Tarpley’s goal in any transaction is to cut through the jargon, advise his clients on the legal risks, and then get the deal closed.

Tarpley has been named among Best Lawyers® – "Ones to Watch" (2021-present), Virginia's "Legal Elite" in Real Estate/Land Use (2018-present) and in the Young Lawyer (Under 40) category (2015) by Virginia Business. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Emory University School of Law where he obtained a Transactional Law Certificate from Emory’s Center for Transactional Law and Practice. While in law school, he clerked at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia. In addition, he is a proud Rotarian.
